Our office is now closed with Dr. Bermant's retirement. It was located in Chester Virginia.

Dr. Bermant designed his office to maximize his patient's comfort, education, and learning experiences during their examination and consultations. The question was, how to optimize an office as an element of his patients' experiences. Privacy was paramount. Exam rooms, the Operating Room, and recovery had adjustable temperature settings so that patients could be kept warm and comfortable during examination, documentation, surgery, and recovery. His standard temperature settings improved consistency in measuring deformity and results. This was especially critical for gynecomastia where the areola muscle shrinks in cold and obscures subtle deformities. Cold rooms result in a shivering patient and can cause pain for recently injured structures. The warm operating room and recovery were factors in preventing the pain cycle from starting after surgery.
Dr. Bermant designed his office himself using computer programs to visualize furniture placement and patient interaction. Furniture was drawn to scale and moved about on the computer to visualize potential patient staff interaction.

Examination rooms had mirrors set up next to picture clips. This way each patient could look at their results in the mirror and compare them to the pictures before surgery under the same lighting and temperature. They could perform the same standard animation poses to demonstrate what surgery had achieved compared to the same action before surgery. This became part of the emotional healing process for the patients. They could see their after surgery contours, swelling, and bruising. They could also learn to listen to their body. Learning about their limitations of activity was a critical step in our comfort control education process.
