Large
volumes of Lacted Ringers (buffered saline or salt water) and anesthetic solution (Lidocaine) with
adrenaline are injected under the skin. This is done through tiny stab
like incisions (usually less than 1/8 inch long or 3mm). The fluid firms
the skin (makes it tumescent). A liposuction cannula or microcannula is inserted through
these tiny incisions and a high vacuum removes the fat. The small wounds
are closed with suture or tiny tapes (steri-strips).
