Movies can better show complex problems like loose skin and dynamic scars. Making videos and movies is much more difficult than pictures. That is why most of Dr. Bermant's patients use his Standard Gynecomastia Pictures to demonstrate their concerns. This standard set of movies has evolved over the years and can be used for:

| Fill the Movie with the breast(s). It is very difficult to analyze the breast on an video that includes the entire body. Detail is lost if the important information occupies only a small part of the frame. Both breasts should be on the same frame unless you are including an additional view of a detail you want to demonstrate. |
If using video lighting, try to minimize shadows especially at the edges of the chest to be evaluated. Good strong room lighting can be better than a camera mounted source.
| Focus the video camera. The chest / breast are what should be most in focus. You may need to take the camera off of its automatic setting to get the nipple in focus. Blurred out of focus images are difficult to evaluate. |
Do not use a mirror to take the pictures.
| If cold or stimulation are factors, make sure the room is warm, the areola muscle relaxed, and the puffy nipple problem can be seen. | ||||
| Choose your background carefully. Pick an uncluttered background with no mirrors. A mirror or glass surface can reflect a flash and make photographs difficult to evaluate. A plain matte background is best. Avoid background clutter. Try to pick a contrasting flat background behind you that does not detract from the chest. |
Please check your movies before sending them to us. You should be able to clearly see your problem on your images. For a Preliminary Remote Discussion to be effective, Dr. Bermant needs to see movies that demonstrate your concerns. |

The Video must include AT LEAST as much as in these movies. The view should extend from the neck to the abdomen. The arms should be at the sides except where indicated to evaluate symmetry (evenness). Holding the camera in one arm makes it impossible to determine any differences between the left and right sides. |
For Details about each movie, please check the example above. If there is something you feel is best demonstrated by a specific different view, please include that detail. We are interested in your concerns. |

The frontal view should have the body parallel to the video camera sensor plane. Side movies should be perpendicular to the camera sensor plane. Side and oblique views should have the arms at the sides.
Oblique pictures should be at 45 degrees and half way between the frontal and side photographic views.
Movies with muscles at rest and tense can often show the mass, dynamic, and scar issues. The tensing pushes the mass out. This video can also show what the muscles contribute to the problem.
Videos only show up so much detail and do not replace the in office examination and evaluation. Dr. Bermant needs to feel and observe the tissue:
- breast mass and nature of this tissue
- any excess fat
- how loose / tight
- how it moves
- how elastic
- scars
- possible numb or sensitive areas
