Information posted in this section does not necessarily reflect the opinion of Dr. Bermant. After Inverted Nipple Surgery By Dr. Bermant Dear Dr. Bermant: Thank you for my new nipples. Inverted Nipple Surgery was definitely worthwhile. I've always wanted it done. I thought about it for a long time until I was completely positive I wanted to do the surgery. It was not as bad as I expected it to be. There was very little discomfort. I was very comfortable. I would recommend this surgery to other people bothered with inverted nipples. I would advise people to weigh the risks of any elective surgery, be positive you wanted to have it done, then have it done! Surgery itself was pretty much painless. It is what I've always wanted done. Now that I had the surgery done, it doesn't change who I am, but it did build my confidence. It was definitely worthwhile. Definitely. Dr. Bermant answers: I am glad everything has worked out. Michael Bermant, MD What Is Wrong With My Nipples? Hello, ok.......my nipples have holes well...a little line that
goes through the middle and i want to know what it it or what is wrong
with them. When the r hard they become fater and poke out. don't mean
to sound like that but i'm just telling u want is up with them. please
email me back with what u think about it! Thank you for your time. Dr. Bermant answers: It sounds like it could be nipple inversion. Inverted nipples tend to retract and can form a slit or depression when retracted. Such problems come in different degrees or nipple inversion grades. In the milder forms, manipulation can make the nipple come out. Your concerns are best explored after an examination and evaluation. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD How to Get Inverted Nipples Fixed and How to Learn More? I was born with inverted nipples. I would like to have them
look normal. Could you do that type of surgury? Would you give me a free
consultation? Can I get more information about how it would be done, the
cost & the risks? Let me clarify that i am not interested in enlarging
my breasts even though my size is only an A cup. Dr. Bermant answers: Yes I do offer surgery for inverted nipples. I have been sculpting nipples for many years. The many pages on nipple inversion are but an introduction to what we offer. We are eager to help you explore your concerns, however, there is a fee for our consultations and preliminary remote packages. These consultations are with me and are quite extensive. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD Inverted Nipples After Gynecomastia Surgery By Another Doctor Hi Doctor Bermant I have just come across your page, and have looked for any answers regarding my partners recent Gynecomastia . It was his second surgery in 12 months. He had it redone by another surgeon
since he was unhappy with the scarring and excess fat still left in him
after the first expensive surgery. Now he has little scarring, no fat
tissue left at all, BUT his nipples are INVERTED! His surgeon assures
him that over time this inversion will rectify itself, and he will be
absolutely normal again. But 3 months after the operation, we see no change. Sincerely Dr. Bermant answers: Nipple inversion can happen in men after some techniques used for gynecomastia surgery. It can happen if too much tissue was removed just under the nipples or when nipple skin scars to deeper structures. Such scars can look worse on animation. That is why I have pictures of my chest sculpture both with arms down and elevated to demonstrate the nature of the tissues on movement before/after my surgery. Scars do evolve after surgery. The evolution depends on the original problem, what was done, and how a patient heals. 3 months is a little early for final evolution, it can take at least 6 months for some scars to soften. Secondary surgery for gynecomastia can be more difficult and have a greater risk for such scars. It is easier to take away than put back. I have several examples of my techniques for such repeat surgery after operations by other surgeons. You can see on the many photographs before and after surgery. I prefer primary chest sculpture that leaves a more natural contour. With my Dynamic Technique, I try to leave a layer of fat similar to the adjacent regions. When there is this layer of fat, adhesions are less likely to happen. Treatment options for male nipple inversion after surgery depend on many factors best explored during an in office consultation where the tissues can be examined. After another doctor's surgery, we are better able to understand a patient's needs at the time of a consultation if we can evaluate copies of operative reports, doctor's office notes, and photographs of the problem before surgery (when available). If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD What Surgery Can Help With Inverted Nipples? Hi Dr. Bermant, Thank you. Dr. Bermant answers: Inverted nipples can have many possible causes. Surgical options depends on the problem which is best explored after an examination and evaluation. We are glad to help our patients explore such issues during consultations. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD What is the Cost of Inverted Nipple Surgery? Hello Dr. Bermant. I was 67kg before and now I am 58kg. The weight loss have somehow affected my breast - they sag a little. Anyway, I was born with inverted nipples. During pregnancy (and lactation), I used a suction device ( a small one used with a syringe to suck the nipples out) but it could not last. And, I never could breast feed my babies directly because they have nothing to hold on to(although I used nipple shield to help me as well). The milk was pumped out and given in bottles. I understand to correct the problem is through surgery. I dont mind bout the disability to deliver milk in the future because I dont plan to have anymore babies. What I am concern about is the cost. Could you kindly figure out the estimated cost for that kinda surgery. I really hope you dont mind because I think I am not being professional here. I apologize for that. Thank you again,Dr. Bermant. Dr. Bermant answers: Nipple inversion surgery costs depend on what needs to be done. Some patients with drooping breasts and inverted nipples prefer to lift the breasts and sculpt the nipples. Others prefer just to address the nipple inversion. Inverted nipple surgery costs can also vary. My office manager Jane can better answer cost questions. She can be reached during normal business hours 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD Is There a Surgical Procedure to Help With Inverted Nipples? Hello Dr. Bermant answers: Men can have inverted nipples. The causes can be the same as in female nipple retraction. New inversion, can be a concern since it can be a sign of cancer. For most men with nipple inversion, the problem is tissue under the nipple pulling it down. Treatment depends on the problem. When there is significant gynecomastia, surgery is often directed at both problems at the same time. Inverted nipple surgery is another option. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD Low Self Esteem with Inverted Nipples - How Can Cosmetic Surgery Help? i am a woman of 47 years, and my self esteem is low because of my breast....i have had inverted nipples all of my life and until just recently its really been bothering me...i was curious as to if there is a cosmetic surgery that i could get to correct the problem...any information you could suggest would be greatly appreciated...thanks
Dr. Bermant answers: This web site is a good introduction to the education we help our patients explore about inverted nipple surgery during their consultations. There are graphic pages of actual during surgery photographs. However, the best place to learn about your concerns and options is during a consultation. Since we see patients from around the world, some prefer to start with our preliminary remote package. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD How Long Is Inverted Nipple Surgery and What Is the Recovery Like? i forgot to ask you about how long the procedure takes and the recovery period...the reason we are asking is we are going north in a few months on vacation and was wondering if that would be sufficient time to do this or not...if not i would have to know so that i could take more time off my job....thanks again.... Dr. Bermant answers: Recovery after inverted nipple surgery is usually fairly easy after most surgery for inverted nipples. The nipples need some time to heal and the breast can be sore. It depends on the deformity, surgical technique, how you heal, and what activities you would like to do. Such issues are best explored after we know more specifics about your problem. A consultation or preliminary remote package is one way to learn about such issues. If my office can be of further assistance, please let us know. We can be reached at: (804) 748-7737. Hope this helps, Michael Bermant, MD
