Standard Photographs for Nipple Inversion and Surgical Correction of Inverted Nipples

Dr. Bermant sees patients from around the world.
We try to make this process easier with a preliminary remote package. That way our patients can feel comfortable with us before traveling to Richmond. You will need to fill out forms, provide us information about your concerns and pictures. These images can be in JPEG or JPG compressed format or actual photographs. (You will need to include return postage if you want the actual photographs returned). There is a fee for this preliminary evaluation.

Fill the frame of the picture with the breast(s).
It is very difficult to analyze a tiny nipple on an image of the entire body.

Focus the camera.
The nipple is what should be the item most in focus. You may need to take the camera off of its automatic setting to get the nipple in focus.

Choose your background carefully.
Pick an uncluttered background with no mirrors. A mirror or glass surface can reflect a flash and make photographs difficult to evaluate. A plain matte background is best.

If using flash, point the flash so that the shadows do not obscure the important nipple outlines. This is done by having camera mounted flash on the same side as the breast and the camera towards the body. This is not as great a concern when no flash is used.

Standard views have the breasts filling most of the image include:

Left Oblique - has the film plane parallel to the long plane of the breast from the front, both breasts filling most of the picture Right Oblique - has the film plane parallel to the long plane of the breast from the front, both breasts filling most of the picture Front Arms Down - showing entire chest and both Breasts Front Arms Up - showing entire chest and both Breasts

Left Side View - picture perpendicular to the plane of the body Right Side View - picture perpendicular to the plane of the body Left Posterior Oblique - has the film plane parallel to the long plane of the breast from the side, the left breast filling most of the picture Right Posterior Oblique - has the film plane parallel to the long plane of the breast from the side, the right breast filling most of the picture

Include other views if you feel that another picture shows your concerns better. For the Side and Oblique Pictures, the arm closer to the camera should be behind the back exposing the breast.

The photographs should be all of the views shown on that web page and at least 3x5 inches large or by e-mail images (JPEG compression preferred). If sending images by land mail, please enclose return postage and envelope if you would like these images returned. For those patients who prefer, we will do the photographs here during your consultation avoiding the remote package.
