Photographs of Rectus Muscle and Fascia
Sculpture during Tumescent Abdominoplasty
Warning: The following material on this page
is graphic in nature. Please skip if explicit surgical details bother
you.
A
little traction on the abdominal flap and the pubic skin shows how
much release has occurred. The old belly button site will move to
the pubic region.
There can be a large amount of extra skin and
fat. Skin and tissues can only shrink so much after pregnancy and
massive weight loss. Liposuction does not manage loose skin nor
tighten a stretched out muscle and fascia wall.
You
are looking at the fascia and muscle wall with the fat and skin
pulled up out of the way.
This patient had a diastasis recti - her tissues between her abdominal
rectus muscles were stretched out and separated. The purple dots
indicate the edges of the muscles and will be sculpted together
by Dr. Bermant. |

The
belly button remains in the same place during this repair of the
diastasis recti - loose abdominal wall between the rectus muscles.
This sculpture does not strengthen the muscles just resets them
closer to each other. This patient had a diastasis recti - her tissues between her abdominal

There are different types of abdominal stomach wall sculpture.
Dr. Bermant varies this repair depending on the specific patient's
problems.
When someone is overweight, the body stores fat behind the abdominal
wall. Diastasis recti repair will not hold back too much fat inside
the belly behind the muscle wall. Pressure from excess tissues will
overcome any tightening of abdominal wall sculpture. |
