Oblique views show the lack of ear fold before surgery. The softening of the edge of the cartilage and sutures alone would not have yielded as nice a result as combining the change in the concha. Bending the ear into a normal shape is part of otoplasty ear surgery.

The oblique view has the ear plane parallel to the image plane. Ear sculpture for bending the ear should be balanced. Blending the folding and bending of the various cartilage elements is an art form.

The side view keeps the image plane parallel to the patient's head. It shows the change in ear position.
The deep conchal bowl and folding of the antihelix helped fold the ears closer to the head. The ear lobes needed sculpture for this patient bending them closer to the head.
