Facelift Surgery - Rhytidectomy are names for a group of operations to restore the effects of aging. Time and gravity take their tolls on our facial beauty. Tissues lose their youthful tone and sag. Too much weight can aggravate the problem. Facelift and neck lift surgery can be used in conjunction with weight reduction and control programs. This surgery is not for weight loss. Face and neck lifts can redefine facial features. Localized adiposity (fat deposits) can be treated with liposuction.

Examine the before surgery photograph on the left. Notice there is no jaw line. The chin crease continues to the lower neck. There is a drooping of tissue throughout the face and jaw with severe jowls. The second photograph is 5 1/2 years after neck lift, facelift, and liposuction surgery. The muscles of emotion in the neck (platysma) were reapproximated along the midline. This helps support the neck. The facial tissues were elevated with a conservative SMAS operation. The SMAS layer contains the muscles of facial animation and supporting structures. Thick heavy necks like this are difficult to correct.

Notice how the facial structures were returned to a more youthful position. The cheek prominence is now again over the upper cheek, no longer in the middle. The jowls under the jaw line have been removed. There is now definition to the neck. No upper face work was done on this patient.
