Nasal Deformity in Older Men

Click on the parts of the painting for enlarged views.This Rubens painting has a study of several older men with drooping noses and dorsal humps. As teeth are lost with age, the maxilla (upper jaw bone) shrinks. The nasal spine which sits on the maxilla supports the tip of the nose. Loss of maxilla can thus result in a drooping nasal tip. Loss of tip support is not the only mechanism for dorsal hump.
