Nasal Hump and Tip Deformity

This statue's nose has a moderate hump deformity and a nasal tip that slightly hangs (Adrian - Cyprien / A Houdon 19th century). There is a bump where the bone meets the upper lateral cartilages (between the upper 1/3 and lower 2/3 of the nose) that may have been from trauma. Other elements of the dorsal hump were probably part of her natural nose. She seems to have a young face and the tip angle is not from aging as seen in the Rubens painting. The angle the nose makes with the lip influences how the nose looks.

Rhinoplasty is the name for a group of operations that could address a nasal deformity like this. Nasal hump surgery is one aspect of rhinoplasty. The computer "rhinoplasty" involved removing the dorsal excess and raising the tip. The elevated tip gives a more pleasing appearance to the nose. Notice how the entire nature of the face changes with a subtle "rhinoplasty."
