Basal Cell Skin Cancer Case 1 lateral views Basal cell skin cancer of the nose. Cancer was excised with modified Mohs' control to remove all adjacent tumor. Tumor Excised  The tumor After surgery    The Skin Expander The round valve to the left was placed under the skin by the ear. The connecting tube and expander were also placed under the skin. The valve allowed a needle to inflate the expander through the skin. The skin expander is a silicone balloon. Placed under the skin and filled with saline (salt water), it expands the skin with each injection through the valve. The expanded skin is then used to rebuild the nose. Without the skin expansion, this patient's forehead would have been too short for this method of plastic surgery nose reconstruction.    Skin Expander Result after surgery  See the frontal view of this patient.
